Rumors of a Jaguar-branded SUV or crossover--either built on a Jaguar platform or using borrowed bits from sister-brand Land Rover--have persisted for years now. Jaguar designer Ian Callum has even confirmed a crossover is in the pipeline.
And just last week we reported that the SUV may share a platform with Jaguar's upcoming 3-Series rival, the XS.
Now, it looks like the ute may be coming to the Frankfurt Auto Show, per a report atAutoWeek citing Jaguar insiders.
Likely to be named the Q-Type, or possibly the XQ, the report claims the new Jag SUV will make it concept debut at this fall's Frankfurt show before heading to production in 2016.
Engines for the Q-Type/XQ will be the same as those found in the Evoque, which is fine by us--the 2.0-liter turbo four is punchy and fun-to-drive, provided it's not saddled with too large a vehicle. A potential high-performance version could also get a supercharged V-6 like that found in the F-Type (and in some Land Rover products).
We'll be on the ground at this year's Frankfurt Auto Show, so stay tuned for the full details this September.
